Tim Kidner

Tim lives in Aberdeen and works as a director of a paper converting company based in Bathgate near Edinburgh. Tim started shooting at school more than 40 years ago and represents Scotland in Small Bore and Match Rifle disciplines as well as Target Rifle and was a member of the GB Team to New Zealand in 2003.

Home life revolves round wife Liz who puts up with weekend trips to shooting ranges and annual visits to Bisley for two weeks in the summer – accompanied by two golden retrievers Kara and Millie who seem to enjoy trips to shooting ranges as an opportunity to chase rabbits and other wild life. Tim is a member of the West Atholl Rifle Club with a range in hills behind Blair Castle where nothing is flat or level and makes shooting at most other ranges seem relatively straightforward.

Other interests include old cars having owned over the years a pre war MG and Alvis, a Morgan, TR2, very early E Type Jaguar and a late 1950s MGA with twin cam engine. The latter car is still in bits undergoing a mechanical rebuild which started 10 years ago – a combination of home commitments and shooting most weekends have made this a long term project!

Tim has had an exceptional year in 2004 winning the Bisley Grand Agg, the Scottish Long Range Championships, the Scottish Double Grand (aggregate of the short and long range championships), and the Caledonian Challenge Shield which is the premier competition for Scottish shooters – the Caledonian Shield was made in 1863 and stands nine feet high and six feet wide so it is not easily transported and is on permanent display at the museum in Blair Atholl not far from the West Atholl range. Tim is a past Chairman of the Scottish Rifle Association and is still a member of the SRA Council and helps to run shooting events in Scotland.

Best Day’s Shooting – Thursday 22 nd July 2004 – in the morning finishing with a 75 in the Prince of Wales to win the Bisley Grand Agg. by 1 point followed in the afternoon by scoring 105 in the National Match.
