Best shooting occasion – in 1971 (or thereabouts) whilst working at Oxford and shooting with a local smallbore club I was invited by a member to go along to an open fullbore meeting and he would lend me one of his Lee Enfields. A super day and I came away with a rose bowl for winning the 500 yard shoot.
Worst occasion – 3 years back at the Lochboisdale shoot at Blair Atholl where I had an excellent practice in the morning but my Parker Hale T4 managed to get rather wet during the lunch break – you can guess the rest, 1 st sighter outer at 2 o’clock, 2 nd one even worse! And I’m not telling the rest of the story -except the T4 was very shortly after replaced by a Musgrave.
Other hobbies – I started sailing under the instruction of CPO Punton at Rosyth in 1958 (my father working hard to find ways to keep me amused during the summer holidays), still enjoy it when I can get the time, also DIY.
Secretary of Larkhall smallbore rifle club, thought by some to be the smallbore section of the West of Scotland Rifle Club!
