Bill Sharman

Name Bill ‘Womble’ Sharman

Age Well over 21 and I’ve got the bus pass to prove it!

Profession Semi-retired College IT Lecturer

Where you are from originally and your current location     Born Wiltshire but a peripatetic Service family upbringing meant we were kept on the move. 24 years in the RAF then lead to more itinerant behaviour including living in Northern Ireland and Singapore. (Got a medal for the former!) Have been living near Beverley in Yorkshire for the past 22 years.

Notable shooting achievements Not much but I suppose I have represented GB five times, including a team to Canada, so the number generating or ‘squinting ‘n squeezing’ can’t be that bad? I have represented Scotland in some capacity in virtually every National and McKinnon match over the last twenty years.

I am reminded by MB-H of a shoot on 29 th July 1981 ! He says “I have very happy memories of my first day's shooting overseas in Scottish colours on the Chilliwack range in BC.  In the days when possibles were much rarer than today I was astonished and dead chuffed to make 247x250 but was beaten by three other Scots and a couple of BC shooters.  Top score went to the expectant captain with an amazing 250 ex 250”. The trouble with doing that on the first day, means that the Captain expects a HPS every shoot thereafter!

When you started shooting As a young lad with a .410 shotgun – bad news for the local bunny population. Serious target shooting started when I joined the RAF aged 15, first Bisley shoot 1960.

Hobbies and interests Keepin ‘Er Indoors happy
